What is Chanukah in Charm City without a pilgrimage every year to the celebrated “Chanukah House,” that wonderland and cornucopia of dazzling lights, animated characters, goofy inflatables and holiday decorations, not to mention that giant chanukiah?
Yesterday, Dec. 27th, the fourth night of the Festival of Lights was celebrated in fine fashion at the “Chanukah House,” at 6721 Greenspring Ave. in Pikesville, with the traditional candle-lighting ceremony led by local political leaders and dignitaries.
Among those who turned out for this auspicious occasion were Baltimore County Councilwoman Vicki Almond (D-2nd), Delegates Samuel I. “Sandy” Rosenberg (D-41st) and Dana M. Stein (D-11th), and Baltimore City Councilmen Zeke Cohen (D-1st) and Isaac “Yitzy” Schleifer (D-5th).
Also in attendance for the festivities was Rabbi Shmuel Kaplan, director of Lubavitch of Maryland and spiritual leader of the nearby Shul at the Lubavitch Center on Old Pimlico Road.
Since 2009, the internationally known “Chanukah House” has been operated by Yitz and Sora Fleischman and their family.
It was previously operated for many years by Morris and Ann Cohen and their family, at their 6211 Park Heights Ave. residence.
The tradition lives on!
