Climate change is real (Photo by Amanda Krotki, Jmore)
The People’s Climate March took place in Washington, D.C. — and at dozens of other locations across the country — on April 29 to mark President Donald Trump’s 100th day in office and to protest his environmental policies.
Tens of thousands of activists surrounded the White House — some dressed as bees, butterflies and polar bears — chanting “Climate Change is Real” and “This is what Democracy Looks Like.” Marchers gathered in front of the U.S. Capitol, made their way up Pennsylvania Avenue and surrounded the White House for a moment of silence that culminated in a thunderous collective sound that was meant to “honor the lives at stake and [demand] climate justice.” The event wrapped up at the Washington Monument with speeches and live music.
Almost all religious faiths were represented at the march, including Buddhist, Muslim, Jewish and Catholic groups. Jmore joined the Jewish Climate Action Network, which marched with Hazon and several other Jewish organizations.
Here are some pictures from the day’s event — which just happened to be a sweltering one approaching the 90s in the nation’s capital.
