Despite the occasional drops of rain and gusts of wind, 18 families showed up recently at Chizuk Amuno Congregation for “The Grand Playdate,” a two-hour inter-generational gathering hosted by the Pikesville synagogue and the Louise D. and Morton J. Macks Center for Jewish Education.
The May 7 event took place on the sensory-friendly and colorful playground built from the ground up a year ago by Krieger Schechter Day School, Rosenbloom Religious School, Goldsmith Early Childhood Education Center and Chizuk Amuno parents, families and staff.
Grandparents brought their grandchildren to explore the question, “What is Jewish about a playground?”
Participants enjoyed swinging, climbing, bonding and learning about Judaism’s perspectives on friendship, perseverance and the importance of sharing inter-generational memories.
Families had the opportunity to meet other families, throw around Frisbees, participate in video interviews, eat snowcones and snacks, experience PJ Library storytime and learn about tikkun olam, repairing the world.
