Family fun day at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore

More than 200 parents and children, ages 6 months old to 11, attended the “Spring In To the Zoo” event on Sunday, May 21, at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. The event was sponsored by IMPACT, the young adult division of The Associated: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore, and the Center for Jewish Education’s PJ Library, a program that brings Jewish-themed children’s books to Jewish families.

Lauren Shapiro and Laurie Rosen co-chaired the program.

“It was a wonderful event,” said Shapiro, who attended with her husband, Matthew Mittleman, and their 11-month-old daughter, Lexi Mittleman. “The children were grouped by age and we saw the prairie dogs, the lions and the chimps. At each stop, the children learned about animals and their ties to Judaism. Then, we heard a PJ Library story. It was a great opportunity for families to meet and for children to make friends.”
