Manchester terror attack and President Trump on tour
Manchester Terror
Update May 24: The terror alert in Britain has been raised to its maximum level. Additionally, three men have been arrested in Manchester as authorities try to determine if the bomber had help, according to the New York Times. Tours of Parliament and the changing of the guards ceremony at Buckingham Palace have been canceled for the time being.
A suicide bomb attack at an Ariana Grande pop concert at Manchester Arena stadium is being treated as terrorism. At least 22 people, including children, were killed and dozens others were wounded in the May 22 incident. This is being called the deadliest terror attack in the U.K. since London bombings in 2005. Dr. Moshe Kantor, president of the European Jewish Congress said, “This was a concert attended by mostly youth and children and is a ghastly reminder that terrorism sees all of us as potential targets, regardless of age, religion, nationality or background.” Governor Larry Hogan tweeted, “This attack is an unspeakable tragedy. Praying for these young victims, their families, #Manchester, and all of Britain.” According to CNN, Isis is claiming responsibility for the attack.

Trump Visits Israel
Following a visit to Saudi Arabia, the first stop on his first international trip, President Trump arrived in Israel May 22 with “new reasons for hope.” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Trump’s trip historic because it is the first time a U.S. president’s first trip abroad included a stop in Israel. “I have come to this sacred and ancient land to reaffirm the unbreakable bond between the United States and the State of Israel,” Trump said in remarks at a welcome ceremony. Trump and his family also visited the Western Wall without any Israeli politicians or officials. During his two-day visit, more than 10,000 Israeli police units, counterterrorism units and border police were assigned to Trump and his 1,000-person entourage. Trump is scheduled to meet with Pope Francis on May 24 at the Vatican.

Standing O for Sandler
Though movie viewers tend to spend a lot of time talking about how bad Adam Sandler films are, Sandler just defied naysayers by earning a standing ovation at Cannes Film Festival, following a screening of the new film, “The Meyerowitz Stories,” according to the U.K.’s Evening Standard. Ben Stiller, Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson also star in the new Noah Baumbach Netflix comedy.
