Driving rain and stormy weather failed to dampen the spirits of community members who turned out for the fifth annual Community Block Party on June 3 at the Owings Mills Jewish Community Center. Approximately 3,000 people attended the five-hour event, according to JCC officials.

The block party was originally scheduled to be held on the JCC’s outdoor ball fields like a street fair. Instead, attendees enjoyed a day of indoor family fun, including live performances, a food and crafts marketplace, games, face-painting and inflatables.

In addition, there was Israeli dancing and music in celebration of the Jewish state’s 70th birthday, as well as opportunities to learn about local organizations that support the Jewish community. Also, the JCC’s new blue jay mascot was revealed at the gathering.

“There were people of every age, religion, race and ability,” said Melissa Seltzer, director of the block party and senior director of the JCC’s J Kids Baltimore. “It was a true community party, celebrating everything we are and making new memories.”
