If Jmore’s “Pets Issue” has put you in a ‘pet-centric’ state of mind, you’re in luck. The 18th annual World of Pets Expo is coming to town. Brought to you by Premiere Events, a family-owned and operated business based in Westminster, the expo takes place Jan. 25-27 at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium. Jmore spoke with Jeanne Emge, president of Premier Events, to learn about all the expo has to offer.
1. How did World of Pets originate?
Our family loves pets and we wanted to showcase all the pet industry has to offer. The expo includes everything a pet lover could want.
2. How’s the Expo laid out?
There are designated areas for cats, birds and reptiles, two rings for the dog agility competition and “Horseland,” which is designed to introduce people to horses and the horse industry. There’s a huge area for hundreds of vendors selling products and services from all across the country. There will also be a pet heath and training area, where people can ask questions and even learn to cook healthy meals for their pets.
3. Any competitions taking place?
There will be a Dock-dog (a canine aquatic) competition that includes dog long jumps, high jumps and dog sprints, an [American Cat Fanciers Association] cat show that’s for both pedigreed cats and kittens and household cats, an [American Kennel Club] dog agility trial, and a pet and owner talent and beauty contest sponsored by 100.7 The Bay radio.
4. Other activities?
There will also be free educational seminars, live demos and entertainment. Many shelters and rescues will be present offering opportunities for pet adoptions. Kids can visit our petting zoo, and pony rides will be available for an additional fee. Kids will also love the family-friendly entertainment. We’ll have Johnny Peers Muttville Comix, who performs comedy and tricks with dogs, and Shorty Rossi, the star of “Pit Boss,” a TV show that used to be on Animal Planet, and “bird whisperer” Jesse James.
5. What else do we need to know?
Pets are welcome and tickets are required. They’re available in advance online or at the door. They’re $12 for adults; $5 for children 5 to 12; kids under 5 are free. The website is worldofpets.org.
