Keswickwas founded by women 135 years ago with the mission of providing older people witha place to live out their lives in dignity and with as much independence aspossible. To this day, Keswick remains committed to enhancing the quality oflife for its residents, guests and the community it serves.

“Weare taking a visionary approach to our original mission of caring for older adults,in each time, each place and each generation, says Carmel Roques, presidentand CEO, who joined Keswick in 2012.

Roques has worked in the field of senior living for more than 30 years, and is committed to developing leaders — on staff and volunteer teams, and in the community — who care about the issue of aging. She continues her efforts to improve life for Baltimore’s older population and creates bridges and partnerships by volunteering with such organizations as LifeSpan Network, the Greater Baltimore Committee Health Advisory Committee, the American Diabetes Association and the Association of Baltimore Area Grantmakers.

Roquesalso encourages her fellow senior team members to share their expertise withand learn from other executive level professionals by becoming involved withnonprofits and professional organizations as well, including LeadingAgeMaryland, Leadership Baltimore County, Maryland Women’s Heritage Center and ExecutiveAlliance, to name but a few.

“Tohelp Keswick fully use its position as a long-lived philanthropic organization,to move the needle forward in providing services for the aging, is unimaginablythrilling,” says Roques. “We are committed to serving more people in more waysto improve their quality of life.”

Roquesbelieves that she and her team are the right people for the right job at theright time. At 64, with decades of experience in providing services for theaging, she says, “I’m still passionate and engaged, and I intentionally surroundmyself with leadership team members who share those qualities.”
