Baltimore Running Festival @ Baltimore Inner Harbor

Many are calling Baltimore Running Festival one of the best races on the East Coast. Now with five distances to choose from, you can find the route that suits you. The distances include the BaltiMORON-a-thon (complete the 5K and half-marathon), marathon, half-marathon, 5K and team relay. All runners will receive an Under Armour shirt. Looking to run a little less? Join 98Rock for the .05K at GAME Sports Bar. Truly everyone can compete!

A Conversation with John Cusack + ‘Say Anything’ @ Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric

Lloyd Dobler is coming! Lloyd Dobler is coming! The movie that shaped the idea of romance for thousands of ’80s kids comes to the big screen. John Cusack starred as the swoon-worthy Lloyd Dobler in love with Ione Skye’s Diane Court. Cusack will be on hand for a live conversation about the making of the movie and his career before the screening. He will also answer audience questions.

BSO Pulse returns for a fourth season of bringing together classical music and indie artists for a unique musical experience. Each collaboration crosses genres. Nicholas Hersh conducts. The shows kick off with a pre-concert party with live music, happy hour drink specials and local food.

The 2018/2019 schedule is as follows:

Oct. 25: Kelela — The D.C. native combines contemporary R&B with jazz influences and progressive electronic music.

Nov. 29: Parquet Courts — The alternative rockers are best known for their punk rock hits. Their latest album was produced by Danger Mouse.

Jan. 17: Dan Deacon — Baltimore’s own visionary presents a night of immersive electronic-acoustic collaborations and the world premieres of several new compositions.

May 16: Rhiannon Giddens — The folk singer and multi-instrumentalist, who was named a MacArthur Genius Grant recipient in 2017, is revitalizing decades of American roots music with invigorating style.

Eva Mozes Kor, Holocaust survivor and forgiveness advocate @ Loyola University Maryland

Eva Mozes Kor, a community leader and champion of human rights, is one of the few surviving twins still sharing her personal account of the medical experiments supervised by Nazi doctor Josef Mengele at Auschwitz. A book signing takes place following the lecture. Kor’s book will be available for purchase at the event.

Houdini died 92 years ago on Halloween and this will be the 91st consecutive Official Houdini Séance – and its first occurrence in Baltimore. Houdini performed in Maryland many times over his career – perhaps he will once again make an appearance!

Join us for an evening full of roving magicians, expert presentations, the official séance and a spectacular finale. Enjoy wine and a light dinner (dietary laws observed).

Festival of Jewish Literature @ The Ivy Bookshop

This 11-day literary festival celebrates the Jewish community’s love of all things literature. Best-selling author Deborah Tannen opens the festival, which also includes a variety of speakers, panel discussions and family events at various locations throughout the community. Among the other authors scheduled to appear are Marc Dollinger, Amy Davis, Joan Nathan and Deborah Weiner.
