Krieger Schechter Day School has many talented and supportive teachers. One of them is Vered Nusinov, an Israeli-born English major, who is the English middle school chair and journalism teacher; she has been part of the KSDS family since 1998. Nusinov has served as a role model, helping students work to achieve their best in English, grammar and writing.
Jacob T., a sixth-grade student at KSDS, says that Nusinov has made him think about grammar in a more critical way. “I find myself using correct grammar now because of her. I also notice mistakes in other people’s grammar,” adds Jacob. “She’s really just improved my knowledge of the grammatical world.”
Jacob B., a seventh-grade student at KSDS, appreciates Nusinov’s way of teaching literature. “I really enjoyed how she taught ‘Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry.’She explained the societal differences, and how moving this piece of literature really is.” A student in Nusinov’s English and writing classes, Jacob explains that Nusinov has expanded his vocabulary and changed his use of grammar. “She has greatly affected my writing and has been a great influence. I enjoyed being in her classes.”
Robin Nesky, KSDS math chair and makerspace liaison who has worked at KSDS for seven years, shares the same dedication to correct grammar as Nusinov. “I’ve always been a grammar nerd, but she lets me feel free to appreciate grammar. I am not embarrassed by it because she feels the same way.”
Nusinov has also provided assistance to Nesky. “She’s my human thesaurus, and she definitely helps me with all my grammar questions.”
Nesky also feels that Nusinov has a contagious way of teaching her classes. “Since we are across the hall from each other, I get to see her demeanor and relaxed attitude with her class.”
Nusinov’s fun, delightful and charismatic personality shines through, especially as she adds humor to a dry subject. “She can be stern when the time calls for it, but she can also be very light,” Jacob adds.
KSDS will continue to enjoy Nusinov’s (sometimes) annoying yet hilarious grammar jokes and will appreciate her kind, caring attitude toward her students.
