More than 1,000 local volunteers came out Dec. 24-25 for Jewish Volunteer Connection’s 14th annual Community Mitzvah Day.

Volunteers made more than 2,000 winter care packages, hundreds of bagged lunches, fleece blankets and other items to be distributed to individuals in homeless shelters across Baltimore City and County.

In addition, volunteers decorated cards for veterans, created flash cards for Baltimore’s sister cities of Ashkelon in Israel and Odessa in Ukraine, and prepared peanut butter-and-jelly sandwiches and bagged meals for the hungry and indigent.

In addition, volunteers throughout the afternoon served holiday dinners at shelters around the metropolitan area, as well performed other good deeds at sites around town.

Community Mitzvah Day mega-sites were at the Park Heights and Owings Mills Jewish Community Centers.
